Julian Julian is with Sinoway Travel/ Beijing Holidays since 2009. He works as the China Marketing Consultant.
Julian comes originally from Germany where he studied tourism. He then left his home country to live and work for Caribic Vacations, an incoming tour operator in Montego Bay in Jamaica.
After some month of Jamaican sun Julian moved to Melbourne, Australia to get his second degree in Marketing and Tourism Management at Victoria University. It is here that he first was encouraged to visit China, which he did for an internship at the end of 2004.
The result? After his graduation he directly went back to beautiful Guilin where he is now living with family and daughter. His daughter was born on 5 September, 2009. When we saw the baby for the first time in the hospital, all girls in our office were so surprised to find out Julian was such a good father. Chinese men would never do this in the family! Julian has a long term education for her lovely daughter, he has started to work for this flow chart today.
Many of his overseas friends often ask him how he manages to cope with the different culture in China, the social requirements here and the challenges of everyday life in a totally alien language in general. He then tell them that it is not so difficult as long as there is place to go back to when the batteries are empty. For him this place is his home library.
This is the place where Julian and his wife spend most of our time in the evening. When he feels unhappy or angry, or he thinks of taking the next flight back to Germany, he goes here and find peace. At the moment they have only 600 books of their combined collection here in Guilin: Half Chinese from his wife and half in European languages from himself. They still have a few hundred copies in Europe and in his wife's hometown and hope to reunite them with their brothers and sisters soon.
