Beijing Tourism

Beijing prides itself on its abundant tourist resources. The city has some 200 scenic spots available for tourists. It is home to the Forbidden City, the world's largest royal residence, the Temple of Heaven where Chinese emperors worshiped heaven, the Summer Place, the royal garden, the Great Wall at Badaling, Mutianyu and Simatai and the world's largest courtyard Prince Gong's Residence.

There are altogether 622 hotels and apartment buildings available for foreign tourists that would translate into 103,000 hotel rooms. About 572 of all these hotels are rated with one star and above. Beijing also has 151 international travel agencies that can provide over 5,000 tourist guides who are proficient in 21 foreign languages.

Great Wall of China The Great Wall of China is the longest structure ever built. It is about 4,000 miles long, and it was built entirely by hand. About 1, 200 - 1, 500 miles of the Great Wall were built during the reign of Emperor Shi Huangdi (Qin Dynasty). The Great Wall crosses northern China from the east coast to the central part of China.

Beihai Park

Beihai (North Sea) Park is one of the most popular parks in the city of Beijing. It covers a total area of over 68 hectares, more than half of it is taken up by the lake.

Beijing Zoo

Beijing Zoo, situated to the west of Beijing Exhibition Center, was known for a short time after the founding of the People's Republic as the Western Suburbs Park.

Forbidden City

The universally accepted symbol for the length and grandeur of Chinese civilization is undoubtedly the Great Wall, but the Forbidden City is more immediately impressive.


Lhama Temple

In Chinese, it is called "YongHeGong". Beijing's largest temple is an enlightening sight, ornamented with intriguing statuary, stunning frescoes, tapestries.

Marco Polo Bridge

The Marco Polo Bridge is located 15 kilometers southwest of Beijing proper. Known also as the Guangli Bridge, it spans the banks of the Yongding River.

Tiananmen Square

This is the world's largest public square, the size of 90 American football fields (40 hectares/99 acres), with standing room for 300,000 people.


The Ming Tombs

The Ming Dynasty lasted from 1368 to 1644. The first Ming emperor had his tomb built in Nanjing, the town which he had chosen for his capital.

The Summer Palace

The Summer Palace, one of the finest examples garden architecture in China, is located in the northwest suburbs of Beijing.

Temple of Heaven (Tiantan)
